Read about the ITC-ILO, its capabilities and its expertise.
The International Training Centre is the training arm of the International Labour Organization. For 45 years, the ITC has been at the forefront of strengthening the capacities, capabilities and competencies of governments, workers’ organizations, employers’ organizations and other development players in the areas o labour, social justice and development. Its services are also available to the United Nations system as a whole, including ILO staff.
The ITC has partnerships with regional and national training institutions. To date, more than 180,000 women and men from about 190 nations have benefited from the Turin Centre's training and learning services. The annual number of programmes and projects exceeds 450. The annual number of participants is about 14,000.
The Centre offers standard courses, customized learning events, comprehensive training projects, advisory services, and training material design and production. Activities take place on campus, in the field or at a distance. The Centre uses information technology, including the Internet, to offer distance learning and tutoring services. Courses are held in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish.
The relevance of the training that is undertaken by the Centre and of the learning that participants experience can only be measured if sufficient added value is offered and if lasting impact is created. In this respect, the Centre can capitalize on the following characteristics:
- a reservoir of expertise on the issues of concern to the ILO as well as on human resources development and capacity building;
- in-depth knowledge of the specific social, economic and cultural conditions of different countries or regions, and constant fine-tuning and customization of its services in the language of the participant;
- a world-wide network of partner institutions and resource persons;
- close links with the ILO HQ and its field offices and with the United Nations system;
- a strong client orientation, interdisciplinary perspective and gender-sensitivity in substance and methodology;
- constant benchmarking and evaluation;
- cutting-edge information and communication technology;
- a global scope and genuine multi-cultural learning environment.
The Centre seeks to provide high quality training which, by strengthening individual performance, will lead to personal and organizational performance improvement and thus contribute to the social and economic progress in the ILO member countries. Evaluation results are compiled into a Centre-wide database which, through the identification of strengths, weaknesses and trends by activity, programme, input and service, provides to managers and officials relevant information for the design and delivery of future activities and services.
